Mission:
Following the footprints of Jesus Christ, CHAC empowers Christian health associations and organizations to work collaboratively to promote access to Healthcare for all, guided by Christian principles of compassion, equity and justice.
Purpose of CHAC:
promote continued, effective and efficient synergy among Christian Health Services in Cameroon, to achieve equitable access to quality health care as an expression of Christian love.
Health facilities
Christian medical work began in Cameroon in the 1930s with small cottages where European and American nationals served as medical doctors and nurses. Over the years, indigens were trained to work with them and finally took over. Today, faith-based organizations (FBO) continue to be major healthcare providers, providing an average of 40% of services in sub Saharan Africa, through facility programs and community outreach services. In Cameroon, the network of faith-based organization is estimated to reach over 52% of the population through health facilities and public health programs in all the 10 regions of the country.
Health Programs
Health programs refer to the provision or administration of health-related services and coverage (including insurance). Healthcare delivery will not be complete without the creation of programs. Generally, these programs target health promotion, disease prevention and treatment. Programs aim at keeping populations healthy by engaging and empowering individuals and communities to choose healthy behaviors and make changes that reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases and other morbidities. Currently CHAC members have programs in general healthcare, eye care, dentistry, HIV, mental health, NCDs, nutrition, WASH, etc. both at facility and community level.
Pharmaceuticals
Pharmaceuticals is an essential aspect of healthcare provision as drugs can relieve symptoms, delay the onset of disease, prevent complications, cure, improve life expectancy and quality of life. Some members of the network have established pharmaceutical departments that are in charge of producing essential drugs and other consumables and purchasing drugs on the national and international markets.
Partnership
CHAC understands the importance of partnerships and networks in sharing its story and furthering its cause. Currently the Association is working to establish durable partnerships with national and international agencies for support. So far, CHAC has ACHAP as its main partner.
